ABOUT

MYMA sits on 46 acres of land in the Loess Hills. The property includes 36 acres of well preserved native forest, rich with ancient spreading oaks, towering cottonwoods, diverse fauna, and breathtaking views of the Missouri River Valley. Nestled amongst the hills is the main house, with a large deck overlooking an open valley. The house has three bedrooms that can sleep ten people, two bathrooms, a washroom, and an open concept kitchen and living room. More lodging is in the building phase, a repurposed grain silo and shipping containers will be the foundation of these structures. Sculptural cabins will also be added to create more sleeping options for campers.

ART CAMP

With an emphasis on elementary age girls, Camp MYMA will help children explore the connection that exists between creativity and the mindful exploration of the natural world.

Campers will create large scale artwork, study ecology, and learn practical building skills. They will also interact with artists in residence that will be staying at the camp for intermittent periods throughout the year. This hands-on camp will instill the self-confidence children need to assert their creativity into this rapidly changing world of ours.

ARTIST
RESIDENCY

Our residency program understands that artists are not all the same, and we embrace that.

We will work with artists to craft their ideal residency. We are flexible on length of stay, welcoming to creative teams, and open to different working styles and mediums.

Our emphasis lies rather, in finding the visionaries among us. We seek artists who are wholly devoted to their curiosity. If you need a place to create that is free from the constraints of daily life and full of childlike wonder, this is for you.

Artist lodging and studios are currently under construction. Sign up for our newsletter to get updates on our progress and calls for artists.

Meet Our Artist Resident

Paul Konchagulian

At the corner of West University Street and South Main Street in the small Village of Alfred, New York there is a collection of sculptures including two by Paul Konchagulian. He was born in New York in 1962 and received his BFA from Alfred University College of Ceramics in Alfred, New York. Paul’s belief is that steel sculpture doesn’t have to be geometrical or rigid. His vision is to explore the softer more malleable side of steel’s properties while still maintaining its visual presence and strength. Paul’s love of steel sculpture has taken him around the world. He has spent time exhibiting and creating commissioned work in Massachusetts, New York and Japan. He currently lives in Omaha, NE where he has exhibited in local galleries and has permanent sculpture installed throughout the city. Paul also regularly teams up with local architects and developers creating and fabricating custom work.

“As an artist and a sculptor my hope is to bring art into everyday life and to make it available to
everyone. My primary focus is on public art and its ability to transform an area and inspire communities. I have worked in many mediums but my true love is steel. I'm drawn to steel for two distinct reasons; its rigidity and its malleability. Though these properties sound like opposites they actually work in tandem perfectly. Steel's rigidity lets me create in large-scale while its malleability allows me to explore a more whimsical softer side of sculpture. The combination of these qualities and my love of public art keeps me coming back for more.” – Paul Konchagulian
